Visit to Lacey

We went to visit our friends Gary and Loris in Lacey, Wa. yesterday afternoon. They have a lovely new home. We had a great afternoon, checking out the house, the clubhouse (great pool and exercise room and more!) and getting caught up. Loris is recovering from some shoulder surgery, so Gary fixed us a great sandwich for lunch!

Last December

My brother called me from Chicago this morning and got me to thinking about the wonderful time we had when they they visited in Dec. I miss my family and often wish Chicago wasn't so far away.

Split

This is named "Split". There is a lengthy discription of the piece and why it's called that, but I can't remember any of it. It is lovely and will be beautiful to photograph when the sky is blue.

More Sculpture Park

This piece is kind of interesting. It is, as most know, a typewriter eraser. However, there was an article in one of the papers saying that kids were asking what it was and when they were told, the response was "what's a typewriter." Times change. =)

Very nice Monday

Dad and I spent the day just pokin' around Seattle. We started with a walk at Greenlake, then coffee at "The Urban Bakery", then into the city for a look at the new Sculpture Park. The park isn't finished but from what we have seen it will be a lovely addition to Seattle. Then to Pike Place Market for some lunch and we bought some fish and veggies for dinner. Great day, lots of fresh air and we came home properly tired.

End of an era.

The King County Journal has been an eastside newspaper for the past 118 years. Tomorrow will be the final edition. We are feeling very sad about this turn of events. It has truly been a friend. Our friend Polly has worked for the paper for the past several years, so gave Dave a tee shirt and a hat to remember the paper by, as a Christmas gift. Oh, Polly still has her job as the paper will continue in a different format, but not the one we're used to and have grown fond of. Farewell KCJ, we will miss you!

Nutcracker collection

I've collected a few nutcrackers over the years. They have all been given to me by family and friends and I really enjoy them. I keep them on the mantel from the day after Thanksgiving until Feb. 1st., then they retire to another less conspicuous shelf for the rest of the year.

Happy baby

This is Dalene, Jolene's sister holding Claire, one of the happiest babies I've ever met. Her parents claim she crys, but I'm not so sure. Her mom is Dalene/Jolene's cousin and her dad graduated from High School with Martha. It's amazing to me how people from our past appear in our present.

New Years Day

It's been miserable here weather wise and so have not taken many photos. I'm going back to New Year's day for some I took then. We were having a great time at Jolene's mom and step dads house. I label who everyone is. Here goes.....

All this stuff is frozen solid today. So roads are not nice. We'll be staying home again! Getting a lot accomplished though.

Wildtree in white

I stayed in the house all day yesterday, except for a short trip to the front and back porches. The neighborhood was quite lovely. Here are a few photos.

Soup and Bread--- Yum

On Monday afternoon we had a soup and bread luncheon at church with our Sunday school class. We always have this in January when it's sort of cold and everyone loves it. We always have plenty of soup and great fellowship.

It's Winter

New Year's Day

Dad and I went to Crossroads Mall and had some breakfast and a latte. We do this every so often to see what's going on and to discuss and solve the world's problems =) A nice lady took our picture for us. This is it.

Interesting

I believe Martha was in junior high when she chose the decor for this cake. Interesting, huh, Zach. She had that wet suit in mind, waaaaay back then
